Numbers 1:50 NLT
“Put the Levites in charge of the Tabernacle of the Covenant, along with all its furnishings and equipment. They must carry the Tabernacle and all its furnishings as you travel, and they must take care of it and camp around it.”
Put the Levites in charge!
Cronyism has increasingly permeated various sectors of society, undermining fairness and equity. This troubling phenomenon extends beyond the political and corporate realms, infiltrating institutions such as the church, resulting in a significant erosion of trust and moral integrity within faith communities.
In the referenced scripture, we observe a pivotal moment—the appointment of the Levites as the caretakers of the Tabernacle of the Covenant. This was not merely a decision made by Moses based on personal judgment; it was a clear directive from God Himself. The term ‘put,’ which the Lord employed in instructing Moses, signifies that the appointment of the Levites was not an option but a divine mandate, emphasizing its critical nature.
This divine appointment illustrates the profound importance that God placed on both the selection process and the roles the Levites were to fulfill. Their responsibilities in maintaining the holiness and order of the Tabernacle reflect God’s desire for a structured approach to worship and service. Such explicit instruction reminds us of the significance of adhering to divinely ordained structures of authority, particularly in an age when human judgment may be clouded by favouritism, bias, or personal gain.
Prayer
Heavenly Father, I pray that You grant me the wisdom and strength to always embrace Your instructions, allowing them to guide my thoughts and actions daily. May I never set them aside or treat them lightly, but rather hold them close to my heart, reflecting on their importance in everything I do. In Jesus’s name, I pray. Amen.
