Numbers 1:30-31 NLT
“Tribe of Zebulun: 57,400”
What motivates you?
There is no doubt that everything we do is motivated by incentives, both tangible and intangible. Incentives alter behaviours. Interestingly, the men from the tribe of Zebulun, aged 20 years and above, willingly volunteered their names for enlistment in a purposeful effort to defend their homeland, even without any direct incentives such as promises of wealth or personal gain. Their commitment mirrored that of their counterparts from other tribes, showcasing a profound sense of duty, loyalty, and communal responsibility.
These men were not merely enlisting for their own benefit; they were prepared to stand in the gap for their fellow countrymen, ready to defend Israel against any external threats or acts of aggression that might arise. This collective spirit of sacrifice highlights a deeper moral obligation ingrained in their culture—a willingness to protect their land and people despite the risks involved.
This raises an essential question for all of us: Can you be trusted to stand in the gap for others without expecting anything in return? In moments of crisis, will you rise to the occasion and support your community, offering your time, skills, or even your safety to help those in need? The true measure of one’s character often reveals itself when no tangible reward is on the line, prompting us to reflect on our values and the sacrifices we are willing to make for the greater good.
Prayer
Heavenly Father, I pray that doing Your will will always be my joy. In Jesus’s name, I pray. Amen.
