Numbers 1:8 NLT
“Tribe of Issachar – Nethanel son of Zuar”
Tribe of Issachar
Oftentimes, humans fail to fully appreciate the blessings bestowed upon them by God, a sentiment often reflected in the names they choose for their children. For example, consider the name Zuar, meaning “small” or “insignificant.” It is puzzling to think that a parent would choose such a name for their child, potentially setting a tone of undervaluation from the beginning of life.
While we may not fully understand the reasons behind this choice, the Bible offers a compelling perspective on Zuar’s legacy. When it came time for him to name his son, Zuar made a profound decision, selecting Nethanel, which means “God has given.” This choice signifies a significant shift from his name – a move towards recognition and appreciation of divine gifts.
Friends, it’s crucial not to underestimate or dismiss the gifts and opportunities that God has provided. Each of us has the power to change the narrative, especially when faced with adversity or condescension. Rather than passing down discouragement or negativity, we can choose to uplift those who come after us. Embrace and honour the blessings you have received, and in doing so, create a legacy filled with hope and gratitude instead of passing on the sour cup of discontent.
Prayer
Heavenly Father, please help me not to look down on what You have given. May I never give them names that do not glorify You. In Jesus’s name, I pray, Amen.
