Numbers 1:28-29 NLT
“Tribe of Issachar: 54,400”
Don’t chase after breaking records
We live in a world where breaking records is often seen as making a mark. While we don’t know if the men aged 20 and older from the tribe of Judah were counted before Issachar’s, it is clear that there was no pressure on the latter to outperform those who came before them. Although the number of men recorded for Issachar was more than 20,000 fewer than Judah’s, the Lord did not express dissatisfaction with Issachar’s contribution. This implies that as long as you are diligent and sincere in your work, you are achieving a commendable goal in God’s eyes.
Interestingly, the scripture does not mention any celebrations, such as jubilations or gestures like high-fives, among the tribes regarding their enrollment numbers. Likewise, there was no sense of disappointment when the recorded numbers fell short compared to other tribes. Friends, making a mark does not solely hinge on breaking records; instead, it revolves around the quality of your efforts and maintaining a positive attitude, regardless of how well others may be performing.
Don’t put yourself in uncomfortable positions, rivalling others based merely on numerical achievements. Remember, there is no record that the tribe of Issachar brought in strangers that fit the Lord’s specification, so they have a higher number. This observation reveals that chasing numbers can lead to a false sense of validation. It is essential to remember that many have lost their relevance before God because they are preoccupied with seeking numerical success. Therefore, it is vital to focus on the integrity of our contributions rather than merely measuring them against the yardstick of others.
Prayer
Heavenly Father, please help me focus on making a mark through obedience to Your will rather than breaking unnecessary records. In Jesus’s name, I pray. Amen.
