Numbers 1:24-25 NLT
“Tribe of Judah: 74,600”
Contribution without comparison
It is not uncommon for individuals to shape their engagement and participation based on the actions of their neighbours or peers. This phenomenon can be observed even in Christian gatherings, where members’ contributions—whether in discussions, prayers, or activities—often reflect those in their network. However, in today’s referenced scripture, we read that Moses documented 74,600 men aged 20 and above from the tribe of Judah to prepare for the impending battles.
It is worth noting that the number was significantly higher than the numbers reported by the tribes of Reuben, Simeon, and Gad. However, it’s important to note that the tribe of Judah’s impressive turnout wasn’t merely a means of outshining the other tribes. Each man who came forward from the tribe of Judah, like other tribes of Israel, did so in obedience to God’s instruction given to Moses, understanding the sacred responsibility of defending their nation. Their motivation stemmed from a deep desire to glorify God and fulfill His commands.
Additionally, this enlistment was not spurred by any external incentives or rewards for the tribe with the highest participation, underscoring their sincerity in commitment. There were no promises of accolades or material gains; instead, the high turnout was a testament to their unity, dedication, and willingness to serve God and their fellow Israelites. Friends, let’s endeavour to base our contributions to the gathering of God’s according to our ability. If you can contribute more to any endeavour, do so without comparison to what others contribute or have contributed.
Prayer
Heavenly Father, I ask for the will to contribute to Your Kingdom’s endeavours according to the ability You have accorded me and not according to what others contribute or have contributed. In Jesus’s name, I pray. Amen.
