Numbers 1:2 NLT
“From the whole community of Israel, record the names of all the warriors by their clans and families. List all the men”
List all the men
God knows the intricate makeup of all His creatures, understanding their strengths, weaknesses, and temperaments. The I AM WHO I AM, the eternal and omnipotent Creator, possesses an intimate awareness of those who exhibit courage and those who shrink from challenges. It is essential to recognize that this knowledge is not inherently a judgment—rather, it reflects the diverse nature of humanity. While the Lord instructed that all men be listed among the brave, one might wonder why women were not included in this enumeration. Does this omission imply that God discriminated against women?
Firstly, it is crucial to acknowledge that God does not favour one group of people over another; His grace is extended to all creation. Every person, regardless of gender, is granted access to the basic needs of life—rain, air, sunlight, and the celestial bodies—demonstrating His impartial love and provision.
Secondly, the I AM WHO I AM excluded women from the list of those enlisted as warriors because, in His divine wisdom, He recognized the vital role women play in nurturing and maintaining the homefront. Their contributions are crucial for families’ and communities’ stability and emotional well-being.
Thus, the lesson woven into this narrative is profound: a specific assignment is designed for each person, tailored to their unique strengths and circumstances. Therefore, let us commit ourselves wholeheartedly to the roles and responsibilities entrusted to us by God. In fulfilling these tasks, we not only honour His divine plan but also contribute meaningfully to the larger tapestry of life.
Prayer
Heavenly Father, I pray that I will always be content with the assignments You have given me and will not desire any assignments not assigned to me. In Jesus’s name, Amen.
