Numbers 1:11 NLT
“Tribe of Benjamin: Abidan son of Gideoni”
Who is your judge?
The name of the leader chosen to represent the tribe of Benjamin, Abidan, offers profound insight into the character of God. Like many Hebrew names, Abidan translates to “My Father (i.e., God) is judge.” This name implies a deep, personal relationship with the I AM WHO I AM, signifying that the bearer acknowledges God’s authority and guidance in their life. This theme resonates deeply with the words of our Lord and Saviour, Jesus Christ, who, following His resurrection, emphasized this connection. In John 20:17, Jesus expresses, “I am going to my Father and your Father, to my God and your God.” Through this declaration, He underscores not only His relationship with God but also assures us that we, too, have access to this familial bond with the Creator. Given that God is the ultimate judge, we can trust that every case presented before Him will receive thorough attention and impartial justice, reinforcing the belief in a fair and just divine authority.
Moreover, the name of Abidan’s father, Gideoni, adds another layer of significance. Gideoni translates to “feller” or “hewer,” symbolizing strength, decisiveness, and the ability to shape and form with intention. This highlights the understanding that true strength emanates from God alone. The apostle Paul reinforces this idea in Philippians 4:13, where he reminds the brethren in Philippi, “I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me.” This verse encapsulates the essence of relying on divine strength; it assures us that we can overcome challenges and fulfill our potential through faith and connection to Christ. The names Abidan and Gideoni encourage us to lean on our relationship with God, recognizing the profound strength and justice He provides in our lives.
Prayer
Heavenly Father, please deliver justice in every unjust situation and strengthen me to be decisive in every endeavour for Your glory. In Jesus’s name, I pray. Amen.
