Numbers 1:10 NLT
“Manasseh son of Joseph – Gamaliel son of Pedahzur”
Who is your rewarder?
When we engage in various activities, we often do so with the hope of receiving rewards, whether in the form of recognition, success, or material gain. Unfortunately, our expectations might go unmet, primarily because many individuals or institutions that promise rewards lack the capacity or the proven track record to fulfill those commitments.
In contrast, God is a reliable source who never defaults on His promises, and it is not a figment of our imaginations. If Pedahzur had not experienced God’s consistent faithfulness, it would have been implausible that he would have chosen the name Gamaliel, which means “God is my reward,” as a beacon of hope and purpose for his son. This choice was not merely symbolic but a deliberate act aimed at setting Gamaliel on a path characterized by divine trust and assurance.
By giving his son this name, Pedahzur aimed to instill in him a perspective that prioritizes reliance on God’s promises rather than humanity’s often frail assurances. The lesson is that we must maintain an unwavering faith in God as the ultimate provider and source of fulfillment.
Prayer
Heavenly Father, please help me focus on You alone as my rewarder. In Jesus’s name, I pray. Amen.
