Leviticus 27:6 NLT
“A boy between the ages of one month and five years is valued at five shekels of silver; a girl of that age is valued at three shekels of silver.”
The Lord’s loving nature
When dedicating children to God, today’s referenced scripture highlights a significant instruction: only those children younger than one month are exempt from this sacred commitment. This exemption underscores the Lord’s loving nature and His desire for these infants to receive the nurturing and care they need from their mothers before being brought into His service. Allowing a whole month after birth gives parents the crucial time to consider and pray over their decision to dedicate their child to the Lord.
Furthermore, the allowance for dedicating infants as young as one month old to the Lord’s vineyard signifies that it is never too early to introduce children to a life rooted in faith. In fact, the earlier we begin to guide them spiritually, the more profound the impact can be on their lives. The scripture emphasizes this principle, urging us to train a child in the way he should go so that when he is older, he will remain steadfast in his faith.
Therefore, friends, let us be diligent and intentional in our efforts to instill the teachings of the Lord in our children’s lives. By doing so, we not only fulfill a scriptural mandate but also lay a strong foundation for their spiritual journey, ensuring they grow up with a deep understanding and commitment to their faith.
Prayer
Heavenly Father, please guide me in leading all my children, regardless of their ages, to You, and may they grow up with a deep understanding and commitment to You through Jesus Christ. In the name of Jesus, I pray. Amen.
