Leviticus 27:31 NLT
“If you want to buy back the Lord’s tenth of the grain or fruit, you must pay its value, plus 20 percent.”
If you want to…
God’s grace has been an enduring presence through the ages, a constant thread woven into the fabric of humanity’s story. In the Old Testament, the I AM WHO I AM revealed His grace in myriad ways, intricately guiding His people. One remarkable example can be found in today’s referenced scripture, where the Lord proclaims that the one-tenth of the harvest which agricultural workers must dedicate to Him as holy can, under specific circumstances, be redeemed. The opportunity shows that God isn’t about materialism and He is okay if we ever feel getting back what has been dedicated to Him.
For a person wishing to reclaim this offering, there are two critical conditions to fulfill: first, they must pay the assessed value determined by the priest, a measure that reflects the sacredness of what has been pledged. Secondly, the buyer must also be prepared to add a surcharge of 20 percent, an acknowledgment that true devotion often requires a sacrifice beyond what is initially expected.
The very beginning of this verse, marked by the word “if,” indicates that God does not presume the buyback to be commonplace; rather, it presents a choice. While some may yearn to reclaim what rightfully belongs to God, others may never want to reclaim because they believe in total surrender.
The question beckons: in which of these two groups do you find your identity? As friends, when faced with the choice of total surrender versus partial reclamation, which path do you feel an inner pull towards? This moment invites you to reflect: will you embrace a full offering of your life, or will you opt for a hesitant, calculated claim on what is holy?
Prayer
Heavenly Father, I pray I will not misuse the grace Jesus Christ gave me. Amen.
