Leviticus 27:30 NLT
“One-tenth of the produce of the land, whether grain from the fields or fruit from the trees, belongs to the Lord and must be set apart to him as holy.”
Worship God in Spirit and in Truth
The Lord’s instructions are unequivocal and cover every aspect of life. At times, these guidelines apply universally to all individuals, while at other times, they are specifically directed towards certain groups of people. To be a faithful steward of God’s word, it is crucial to ensure that it is not manipulated to promote any agenda that contradicts divine counsel.
According to today’s scripture, there is a clear mandate for those who cultivate the land—specifically, farmers and agricultural workers: they must set aside one-tenth of their harvest, whether it be grain from their fields or fruit from their trees, and dedicate it to the Lord, recognizing it as holy. This practice not only reflects gratitude towards God but also reinforces a sense of community responsibility among those who share in the land’s bounty.
But what about individuals in other professions, such as fishermen, artisans, or tradespeople, who do not directly engage with the land? The scripture referenced does not impose its requirements on them; thus, non-compliance will not lead to God’s displeasure. Similarly, adherence to these agricultural instructions will not enhance their standing with God. Each individual needs to discern the instructions that pertain specifically to their circumstances.
As you navigate your spiritual journey, it is vital to adhere to the directives the Lord has provided you, instead of feeling pressured to follow instructions that do not apply in your context out of fear of judgment. Remember, as stated in Scripture, God has not instilled a spirit of fear within us, but rather one of power, love, and a sound mind. Therefore, embrace your identity in Christ Jesus and live boldly according to the principles of power, love, and sound judgment that He has equipped you with.
Prayer
Heavenly Father, help me to worship You in Spirit and in Truth, not out of fear of what I have been told You will do, but rather for who You truly are. In Jesus’s name, Amen.
