Leviticus 27:28 NLT
“However, anything specially set apart for the Lord—whether a person, an animal, or family property—must never be sold or bought back. Anything devoted in this way has been set apart as holy, and it belongs to the Lord.”
Specially set apart
While growing up, my mom maintained distinct dishware reserved exclusively for special visitors. However, she surprised us one day by announcing that we should also start using these cherished dishes for our daily meals. Her decision was based on the fact that using the best is also good for those offering the best. While wavering might be acceptable in human relationships, it must not become a norm in our relationship with the King of Glory.
In today’s referenced scripture, the Lord asserts that “anything specially set apart for the Lord—whether a person, an animal, or family property—must never be sold or bought back.” This directive emphasizes the gravity of such a commitment; once something is dedicated to the Lord, that decision is irrevocable. It serves as a reminder that the offeror must weigh their choices carefully before proceeding. Just as my mother encouraged us to treasure and utilize our special dishware, the Lord desires that we approach our commitments to Him with a similar spirit of dedication and reverence.
Friends, take a moment to reflect on whether you are hesitating or wavering in this crucial aspect of your life—whether it’s about your time, talents, or resources. Ask God for guidance and clarity; don’t let uncertainty prevent you from embracing the unique purpose He has for you. Remember, the dedication we offer Him is not just a simple act; it carries profound significance and should be honoured with the utmost sincerity.
Prayer
Heavenly Father, please help me honour You at all times. May I never reclaim the time, talent, or resources I have dedicated to You. In Jesus’s name, I pray, Amen.
