Leviticus 27:21 NLT
“When the field is released in the Year of Jubilee, it will be holy, a field specially set apart for the Lord. It will become the property of the priests.”
When the field is released
A Yoruba adage states, “Amọ’dun o jina ki ẹni ma mu ebu isu jẹ,” which translates to “The next harvest isn’t far, so do not eat the minisetts.” This means that it is crucial to take action now to avoid future regrets. In the previous verse, the Lord emphasized that neglecting a vowed field could have consequences for the offeror, specifically resulting in losing the right to the field permanently. Today’s referenced scripture reveals that the priests are the recipients. It’s important to note that the priests did not pray for or wish for the owner to fail in fulfilling their obligations; instead, the owner’s complacency opened the door for the transfer of ownership.
An interesting question arises: Why did the Lord transfer ownership to the priests? This could be because they are the Lord’s faithful stewards. Additionally, it is noteworthy that Moses did not include himself or his descendants as beneficiaries, demonstrating his contentment with what the Lord had granted him.
Friends, are you a faithful steward so the Lord can entrust you with His property?
Prayer
Heavenly Father, please help me focus on trusting in Your divine wisdom and timing rather than chasing after earthly blessings or material gains. May I always believe that You will bless me in ways that align with Your plan for my life. Help me find contentment in Your presence and recognize the blessings I already have. In Jesus’s name, I pray. Amen.
