Leviticus 27:18 NLT
“But if the field is dedicated after the Year of Jubilee, the priest will assess the land’s value in proportion to the number of years left until the next Year of Jubilee. Its assessed value is reduced each year.”
The integrity of His word
People strongly dislike when the law is applied selectively. We want to avoid a scenario where what is acceptable for one person is not acceptable for another. Unfortunately, this is how many societies function, and it can be seen in human relationships as well, as some individuals believe they are above the law, even when they are the ones creating it. The I AM WHO I AM, however, does not behave this way.
It is important to remember that God established principles that prevent permanent land ownership changes. Instead, the Year of Jubilee serves as a reset, when lands or fields must be returned to their original owners. This practice reflects God’s unwavering commitment to justice and fairness. It demonstrates that even He adheres to the guidelines He has given to His people. Notably, God does not exempt Himself from this divine structure, highlighting the integrity of His word.
Additionally, God instructs that the assessed value of any field that is vowed decreases depending on how much time is left until the Year of Jubilee. This shows that God’s nature is not rooted in materialism; rather, it emphasizes His focus on spiritual commitments and relationships that transcend worldly possessions or the value one can extract from an offering.
Prayer
Heavenly Father, though the assessed value of the field may wane as years approach the next Jubilee, Your love does not diminish. Please keep me close, for I am Yours and a sheep of Your pasture. In Jesus’s name, I pray. Amen.
