Leviticus 27:11 NLT
“If your vow involves an unclean animal—one that is not acceptable as an offering to the Lord—then you must bring the animal to the priest.”
Divine protection
Having instructed Moses to communicate to the people of Israel the specific types of animals deemed acceptable for sacrifice, one might assume that no one would dare to approach God with an unclean animal, much less as a part of a vow offering. However, “if” at the beginning of the verse and the accompanying message suggest that the Lord extends grace to the people, allowing for exceptions in certain situations.
In typical practice, sacrifices had to meet stringent purity requirements, and any unclean animals were strictly forbidden in the sacrificial process, as they were deemed unsuitable to come before God. The directive for the offeror of an unclean animal to present before the priest teaches a more profound lesson: the animal’s impurity will not transfer to the priest. Friends, it is important to note that God does not put anyone working for Him in harm’s way. He didn’t make His priest unclean through the presentation of unclean animals that may be part of a vow of dedication, and will never do so for anyone working faithfully in His vineyard.
Prayer
Heavenly Father, You don’t say that Your priests will become unclean for inspecting an unclean animal. I pray that Your protection will be evident over me. In Jesus’s name, Amen.
