Leviticus 26:45 NLT
“For their sakes I will remember my ancient covenant with their ancestors, whom I brought out of the land of Egypt in the sight of all the nations, that I might be their God. I am the Lord.”
Ancient covenant
Today’s referenced scripture illustrates that God is the initiator of all covenants. For these covenants to remain active, it is essential for the beneficiary—often humanity—to fulfill their designated role within the agreement. This dynamic relationship underscores a critical truth: if the beneficiary fails to uphold their side of the covenant, God may choose to forget it. Nevertheless, God’s lovingkindness can reactivate the covenant, so He proclaimed, “I will remember my ancient covenant.”
This assurance is striking, particularly when we consider that the Israelites have no claim to merit the reactivation of this covenant through their actions. This reflects the profound nature of God’s grace, which has been consistently extended to His people throughout history, independent of their behaviour or merit. Moreover, there is no doubt or dispute regarding the identity of the liberator who brought the Israelites out of bondage in Egypt—God alone performed this miraculous act of salvation.
Friends, just as God was the catalyst for Israel’s freedom, He is also the source of your victories and blessings. Through His divine intervention, we find hope and purpose in our lives. Like the people of Israel, God desires to be your God, guiding and providing for you in every circumstance. Embrace the opportunity to make God your Lord, and trust in His unwavering devotion to you.
Prayer
Heavenly Father, thank You for Your lovingkindness, and I pray that You will always be my God. In the name of Jesus, I humbly offer this prayer. Amen.
