Leviticus 26:43 NLT
“For the land must be abandoned to enjoy its years of Sabbath rest as it lies deserted. At last the people will pay for their sins, for they have continually rejected my regulations and despised my decrees.”
Wrongdoings have a price
A question that often arises is why God doesn’t simply allow the people of Israel to live as they wish in the promised land without intervention. It is crucial to acknowledge that God bestowed this land upon them, a gift that comes with divine expectations and responsibilities. Failing to adhere to His instructions regarding the land risks diminishing its blessings; in such a case, the promised land would become no different from any other territory.
Today’s referenced scripture emphasizes that the absence of immediate consequences for wrongdoing should not be misconstrued as a green light to continue in sinful behaviour. The Lord explicitly warns that one cannot persist in sin while expecting His grace to abound indefinitely. Just as God did not overlook the persistent disobedience of the Israelites—addressing their shortcomings through various means, including discipline and guidance—He similarly responds to anyone who continually rejects His commandments. This underscores the importance of accountability and the profound relationship between obedience to divine principles and the richness of the blessings that follow.
Prayer
Heavenly Father, I come before You with a humble heart, seeking Your forgiveness for my shortcomings and transgressions. I pray that my thoughts, actions, and desires may always align with Your divine will and purpose for my life. Please grant me the wisdom and strength to follow the path You have set for me so that I may reflect Your love and grace in all I do. In Jesus’s name, I offer this prayer. Amen.
