Leviticus 26:29 NLT
“Then you will eat the flesh of your own sons and daughters.”
God does not play games
Yesterday, while driving home through the bustling streets of Calgary, I couldn’t help but notice the city’s numerous bright white and blue notices on my neighbourhood’s intersections announcing upcoming street cleaning services. The notices clearly stated that all vehicles must be removed from the designated streets during specific times, or owners would face fines.
As I navigated the neighbourhood again this morning, I witnessed the street cleaning trucks diligently carrying out their tasks, their powerful hoses spraying water and sweeping away debris. However, to my astonishment, I spotted several cars that had been parked since the last snowstorm. These vehicles stood unyieldingidicating that their owners completely disregarded the cleaning operation. The street cleaning crews passed by these vehicles without issuing a single ticket, leading me to wonder if the city’s threats of punishment were hollow.
In stark contrast to this lack of enforcement, I reflected on a profound truth: the Lord of heaven’s hosts does not make idle threats. When He declares that the people of Israel will resort to unspeakable behaviour should they deviate from His instruction, He means it.
Take, for instance, the heartbreaking account from Samaria, where a severe famine—brought on by a ruthless siege from an adversary—drove one desperate woman to commit the unthinkable against her child. In a grim pact with another mother, they resorted to dehumanizing acts to survive, marking a tragic moment of desperation and moral decay. Such instances underscore the gravity of disobedience and the real repercussions that can arise. Friends, do not dare God because no one does it and feels good when the punishments occur.
Prayer
Heavenly Father, I humbly come before You, longing to align my life with Your divine will. Please grant me strength and guidance through the power of the Holy Spirit and illuminate my path with Your sacred word. Help me to stay steadfast in my faith and devoted to Your purpose every day of my life, no matter the challenges I may face. I ask this in the name of Jesus Christ, my Lord and Savior. Amen.
