Leviticus 26:27-28 NLT
“If in spite of all this you still refuse to listen and still remain hostile toward me, then I will give full vent to my hostility. I myself will punish you seven times over for your sins.”
Avoid converting probability into certainty
While the teachings in the scripture referenced are undeniably powerful, they operate within a framework of probabilities. To be clear, the events described will not manifest unless certain conditions are met. In this case, it is the refusal to listen that catalyzes the consequences outlined in the scripture. It is essential to understand that any external force or entity does not influence this refusal; instead, it is a conscious choice made by the people of Israel themselves.
Similarly, the onus to heed divine instruction rests solely on your shoulders. If you choose to ignore this call, it is essential to recognize that the repercussions of your disobedience cannot be borne by anyone else; the responsibility lies entirely with you. Reflect on the poignant reminder offered by the writer of the book of Hebrews, who cautions, “Today when you hear his voice, don’t harden your hearts as Israel did when they rebelled” (Hebrews 3:15).
So, my friends, take a moment to examine the condition of your heart. This introspection is crucial, as it will ultimately determine whether you are inclined to heed His guidance or turn away from it. The truth is, your heart can only be open to receiving God’s word when you have genuinely embraced Christ Jesus as your Lord and Savior. Embracing this relationship is the key to cultivating a receptive spirit, allowing divine wisdom to transform your life and deepen your faith.
Prayer
Heavenly Father, please help me not to harden my heart against Your voice. Instead, may I always be attuned to the gentle whispers of the Holy Spirit, recognizing the ways You communicate with me through love, peace, and wisdom. Help me to cultivate a spirit of discernment, allowing me to hear and follow Your guidance in all aspects of my life. In Jesus’s name, Amen.
