Leviticus 26:25 NLT
“I will send armies against you to carry out the curse of the covenant you have broken. When you run to your towns for safety, I will send a plague to destroy you there, and you will be handed over to your enemies.”
God’s wrath: no man can bear it
Today’s referenced scripture offers a profound reminder that everything in creation is ultimately under God’s sovereign control. He reigns as the Lord of heaven’s armies, signifying that even the earthly armies and powers are subject to His command. The scripture’s mention of not just one army but multiple armies underscores the magnitude of His might and the vigilance with which He governs the universe.
Furthermore, it is important to recognize that every covenant God establishes encompasses blessings and curses. The blessings flow from adherence to His commands, while the curses result from breaking the covenant. When the latter occurs, God does not intervene to mitigate the punishment, which means that one can expect no mercy from the forces He unleashes, as evidenced by the historical invasion of the Promised Land by the Babylonians. This demonstrates the serious consequences of disobedience and the need for accountability.
Ultimately, the Lord warned that if the people of Israel sought refuge in their towns rather than turning to Him, the safety they sought would be elusive. This message is relevant to us today as well. The solution lies in humbly retracing our steps back to Him, for it is through His protection that we truly find refuge amidst life’s challenges.
Prayer
Heavenly Father, I humbly come before You in prayer, asking that I may steer clear of any actions or choices that would invoke the curses associated with Your covenant in my life. Instead, may I consistently position myself through Christ Jesus for the abundant blessings that You have promised those who walk in Your ways. In Jesus’s name, Amen.
