Leviticus 26:21 NLT
“If even then you remain hostile toward me and refuse to obey me, I will inflict disaster on you seven times over for your sins.”
Don’t make God show His stern side
It is common for individuals serving a punishment to perceive the person administering the consequence as a villain. This psychological response can complicate the relationship between law enforcement and those they reprimand. To mitigate this perception, some law enforcement officers who undertake sensitive or potentially confrontational tasks wear masks or other concealment. This practice helps to create a barrier between the officer and the individual being punished, allowing the focus to remain on the behaviour rather than the person enforcing the consequence.
In contrast, the I AM WHO I AM does not require physical disguises to enforce punishments for unrepentant wrongdoing. Unlike humans who could suffer reprisal, no one can launch such against God. The punishment may sound egregious, but it is aimed at leading the wayward back to righteousness. However, if the punished individual reacts aggressively or displays a lack of remorse, this defiance may prompt even harsher repercussions.
The Lord articulates that just as He possesses the capacity to bless abundantly, He is equally prepared to mete out severe consequences, intensifying them sevenfold if required. This illustrates the gravity of His commitment to discipline. The underlying message is clear: God does not shy away from correcting His people, nor will He relent until they come to recognize their errors and seek genuine repentance. This duality highlights not only the merciful nature of divine correction but also the serious expectations placed on individuals to respond to such guidance with humility and change.
Prayer
Heavenly Father, I humbly ask for Your guidance and strength to navigate my actions and decisions wisely. Please help me to live in a way that aligns with Your teachings and principles, avoiding choices that might lead You to express Your disciplinary side toward me. I seek Your grace and wisdom to make choices that reflect my love and respect for You, fostering a deeper connection in faith and understanding. In Jesus’s name, Amen.
