Leviticus 26:2 NLT
“You must keep my Sabbath days of rest and show reverence for my sanctuary. I am the Lord.”
‭‭
Two in one
Many individuals hold a misguided perception of God, viewing Him as being overly demanding or difficult to please. This belief fosters a sense of frustration and uncertainty in the faithful. However, today’s scripture is a guiding beacon that counters such a mindset. If God were truly hard to please, it would imply that He never communicates His desires to us and that His expectations constantly shift, leaving us confused about what truly matters to Him. This, however, is far from the truth.

The King of Glory is consistent and steadfast in His requirements. In the scripture referenced today, the Lord clearly communicates His expectations to the people of Israel, outlining specific instructions that reflect His nature and intentions. First and foremost, He commands that they observe His Sabbath days of rest. The plural “days” signifies multiple Sabbath days throughout the year, each designated for rest and spiritual reflection. The people must honour each one, as these days serve as sacred moments for physical and spiritual recharging.

The second instruction emphasizes the importance of His sanctuary. God underscores that He does not take the reverence owed to His holy place lightly. He calls upon the people of Israel—both native-born and the foreigners residing alongside them—to show profound respect and regard for it.

However, it’s vital to understand that the sanctuary is not confined to a physical structure but also represents our bodies. Our bodies are temples that house the Spirit of God, and allowing anything that does not bring glory to Him to inhabit them—whether harmful habits, negative thoughts, or destructive behaviours—demonstrates a lack of reverence. Therefore, we are called to cultivate our hearts and lives in ways that honour God, reflecting His glory in all we do.

Prayer
Heavenly Father, I ask that You guide me in finding moments of peace and restoration every week as I embrace the Sabbath. Please help me prioritize time to recharge both physically and spiritually, allowing me to reflect on Your love and grace. Empower me to cultivate a deep sense of reverence in all aspects of my life, so that I may honor You through my actions, thoughts, and interactions with others. In Jesus’s name, Amen.
