Leviticus 26:13 NLT
“I am the Lord your God, who brought you out of the land of Egypt so you would no longer be their slaves. I broke the yoke of slavery from your neck so you can walk with your heads held high.”
I broke the yoke of slavery
The word “I” appears twice in the referenced scripture, each time signifying God’s unwavering commitment to His people. The first instance underscores that, despite the tumultuous and chaotic circumstances faced by the Israelites, God did not abandon His role as their protector and guide. This assurance was crucial during a time when they were grappling with oppression and confusion. The second mention highlights a profound truth: no human intervention or effort played a role in their liberation. In fact, the historical accounts lack evidence that the Israelites engaged in fasting or made any sacrifices to solicit divine favour before their deliverance. Instead, it was God alone who orchestrated their release from bondage in Egypt, showcasing His omnipotence and sovereignty.
The narrative emphasizes that their liberation was purely an act of divine grace, as the Lord single-handedly broke the chains of their oppression and restored their dignity. Notably, the Israelites did not flee stealthily; they departed in full view of their oppressors, demonstrating their newfound freedom and God’s power to redeem. This passage is a reminder that God continues to act in the lives of those who trust Him. When we believe in His promises and timing, we can look forward to the joy that comes from His restoration. Embrace this truth, and you will find peace and hope in your journey.
Prayer
Heavenly Father, You alone have the power to break the chains of oppression, just as You once liberated the people of Israel from the burdens of slavery and restored their dignity. Today, I humbly ask You to lift every yoke of uneasiness that weighs heavily upon me and replace it with Your divine peace. In Your grace, please crown me with glory and honour. In Jesus’s name, I pray. Amen.
