Leviticus 26:1 NLT
“Do not make idols or set up carved images, or sacred pillars, or sculptured stones in your land so you may worship them. I am the Lord your God.”
‭‭
Evaluate your interests
When God created humanity, He endowed us with an abundance of attributes, one of the most significant being our remarkable capacity for creativity. This intrinsic quality enables us to innovate, solve problems, and express our thoughts and emotions through various forms, such as art, music, writing, and other creative endeavours. It is crucial to recognize that our personal interests, which often stem from our experiences, backgrounds, and passions, play a substantial role in harnessing and utilizing our innate abilities. However, today’s scripture carries a serious caution from the Lord: “Do not make idols.” This directive implies that our interests and skills must be carefully scrutinized and aligned with divine principles.

By instructing His people not to create idols, God emphasized that the focus and interests of the Israelites—whom He liberated from the oppressive bondage of Egypt and referred to as His chosen servants—must not be directed towards pursuits that undermine His sovereignty and authority in their lives. The prohibition against idolatry serves as a reminder that anything, even something as seemingly harmless as art or personal ambition, can become an idol if it distracts us from our relationship with God.

Dear friends, any form of creativity that leads one away from God’s presence and guidance ultimately fails to earn the praise of the King of Glory. Instead, such pursuits may provoke His displeasure and divine wrath. We must never forget that our creative endeavours should honour God and align with His divine purpose. In doing so, our work not only enriches our lives but also reflects His glory, serving as a testament to His creativity in our lives rather than detracting from His magnificent and sovereign nature. Let us strive to ensure that our creative expressions remain in harmony with the principles of faith, allowing us to glorify God in every aspect of our lives.

Prayer
Heavenly Father, I humbly seek Your guidance, praying that I may never wield the gifts You have graciously bestowed upon me in any actions or pursuits that might diminish the reverence and significance of Your presence in my life. In Jesus’s name, Amen.
