Leviticus 25:43 NLT
“Show your fear of God by not treating them harshly.”
Show your fear of God
God has not called us to merely act out of fear of Him, as acting is essentially a form of make-believe that lacks authenticity. Instead, God has called us to genuinely express our reverence and fear of Him daily. This expression of fear should not be for self-promotion or personal gain but rather for the glory of God alone.
In the referenced scripture, the Lord emphasized that while fearing Him is fundamental, demonstrating that fear through our actions is paramount. One might wonder: how can we indeed show the fear of God in our lives? The answer lies in our treatment of others, especially those in vulnerable or precarious situations (1 John 4:20).
The Lord teaches us that our fear of Him should manifest in compassion and kindness. We cannot sincerely claim to fear God unless we extend grace and dignity to those who cannot repay us. This means caring for the poor, helping the marginalized, and treating everyone respectfully, regardless of their circumstances. By doing so, we embody the true essence of fearing God, reflecting His love and compassion for the world around us (Matthew 5:16).
Prayer
Heavenly Father, I come before You with a humble heart, seeking Your guidance as I strive to embody Your grace daily. I pray that every act of kindness I offer be carried out to bring glory to You alone and let my heart remain focused on serving others selflessly for the edification of the body of Christ. In Jesus’s name, I pray. Amen.
