Leviticus 25:34 NLT
“The open pastureland around the Levitical towns may never be sold. It is their permanent possession.”

Never to be sold
One’s perspective on an item fundamentally shapes one’s relationship with it. For instance, if an individual perceives an item as marketable, it will likely be listed among their possessions for sale. Conversely, selling an item would not cross one’s mind if deemed priceless.

In today’s referenced scripture, the Lord emphasizes that the Levites, despite their unique role within the community, are not immune to human emotions and desires. They are just as susceptible to temptation and the allure of material gain. However, God clearly instructs that their desires must never compromise the integrity of the inheritance assigned to them, explicitly prohibiting the sale of open pastureland surrounding the Levitical towns.

The rationale behind this directive is not merely practical; it reflects God’s caring nature towards His creations. These lands were designated for the sustenance of the animals owned by the Levites, ensuring that their needs were met while they served their religious duties. God takes a special interest in the welfare of all who dedicate themselves to His service, reaffirming that He cares for every household, regardless of status.

Additionally, this scripture teaches a lesson about the importance of stewardship and discernment. In times of discomfort or financial strain, one mustn’t hastily relinquish something that holds enduring value, particularly if it cannot be repurchased later when circumstances improve. It serves as a metaphorical warning not to sell out the grace of God or spiritual blessings over fleeting concerns.

Prayer
Heavenly Father, please help me not to sell the priceless inheritance I have through the finished work of salvation that Jesus purchased with His blood on the cross at Calvary, even when faced with any form of discomfort. In Jesus’s name, I pray. Amen.
