Leviticus 25:25 NLT
“If one of your fellow Israelites falls into poverty and is forced to sell some family land, then a close relative should buy it back for him.”

*An escape route*
In today’s scripture, we are given essential lessons about poverty. The Lord alludes that poverty is a ditch, highlighting the unpredictability and challenges of financial struggle. Thankfully, God has put systems in place to help people rise out of poverty, ensuring that no one is left to suffer alone. For the people of Israel, the Lord instructed that a close relative should help buy back a family member’s land. This shows that it’s not just about individual profit; it’s about supporting and caring for each other as a community and family.

The message is clear: the Lord wants us to care for others, acting selflessly to assist those struggling. The profound truth is that only Christ truly fulfills this role. Through His sacrifice, resurrection, and return to glory, Christ has connected us to God, giving us the chance to be reconciled and to share in His eternal kingdom. Because of this relationship, we are encouraged to extend kindness and support to one another, mirroring the love and grace we have received.

Prayer
Heavenly Father, I humbly ask for Your guidance and strength as I seek to demonstrate to my neighbours the profound love and grace that I have been fortunate to receive from You. Help me be a source of kindness, understanding, and support in my interactions with them, reflecting Your compassion in my words and actions. In Jesus’s name, I pray. Amen.
