Leviticus 25:22 NLT
“When you plant your fields in the eighth year, you will still be eating from the large crop of the sixth year. In fact, you will still be eating from that large crop when the new crop is harvested in the ninth year.”
Over, above, and beyond
The Lord does not condone laziness, and this is clearly articulated in Scripture. After the one-year interregnum, the Lord stated that the people of Israel would return to tending their farms. Notably, the Lord employed the word “when” rather than “if,” emphasizing the certainty of their return to agricultural work. This shows that the Lord wants us to put our effort into action.
Importantly, the Lord did not imply they would labour with empty stomachs. Instead, He assured them they would continue to enjoy the bountiful harvests of the sixth year. This is a vivid reminder of God’s provision. Furthermore, the Lord stated that this blessing extends beyond the immediate harvest—while they are reaping in the ninth year, they will still consume the grain and produce from the sixth year’s bounty.
Friends, the enormity of blessings that accompanies obedience to divine instruction is truly beyond human comprehension. It serves as a powerful reminder of how faithfulness in following God’s commandments not only sustains our immediate needs but also enriches our future in ways we may not fully grasp. Therefore, let’s always commit to obeying the Lord, particularly when the present and future look blurry.
Prayer
Heavenly Father, I come before You with a heart full of gratitude, recognizing that Your blessings can multiply my efforts in ways that surpass all understanding. I humbly ask for Your divine favour on my pursuits, whether they be personal, professional, or spiritual. As I strive to follow Your guidance and fulfill Your commandments through the teachings of Jesus Christ, I pray that You will empower my endeavours with success and make a lasting impact in my life and the lives of those around me. In Jesus’s name, Amen.
