Leviticus 25:3 NLT
“For six years you may plant your fields and prune your vineyards and harvest your crops,”
‭‭
Freedom
It is not uncommon for parents to aspire for their children to grow into well-respected community members, encouraging them to pursue disciplines often deemed prestigious or beneficial. However, it’s intriguing to note that God did not impose any profession upon the people of Israel. If the I AM WHO I AM had mandated a particular path, the choice of the term “may” would likely have been replaced with a more authoritative “must.” This subtle difference highlights the importance of personal preference and the value of free will in one’s vocation.

God provided clear instructions for those who choose to engage in agriculture. He outlined that they had six years to cultivate their fields, during which they were entrusted with the responsibility of tending to their vineyards and harvesting their crops whenever the time was right. The wisdom embedded in these directives offers profound lessons for all.

Firstly, the saying “the grass is only greener where it is watered” emphasizes that fulfillment and success come from dedicated effort and nurturing one’s endeavours. It serves as a reminder that each individual should find contentment and pride in their pursuits rather than coveting the seemingly superior opportunities of others.

Secondly, the instruction to prune one’s vineyard underscores the importance of personal responsibility—a vital task that must be performed before the crops can bear fruit. This illustrates a broader principle: the need for preparation and diligence in our efforts, paving the way for future blessings.

Ultimately, the abundant blessings promised by the Lord for the land they were to inhabit come with the condition of adherence to His commandments. This reflects a deeper truth about the relationship between faith and responsibility, urging individuals to align their actions with divine guidance to reap the fruits of their labour.

Prayer
Heavenly Father, please bless my endeavours and guide me in approaching them with dedication and integrity. Help me to understand and faithfully follow Your instructions. Grant me clarity and strength to pursue my goals and the wisdom to recognize opportunities that arise along the way. In Jesus’s name, Amen.
