Leviticus 25:10 NLT
“Set this year apart as holy, a time to proclaim freedom throughout the land for all who live there. It will be a jubilee year for you when each of you may return to the land that belonged to your ancestors and return to your own clan.”
‭‭
Set this year…
Regarding the fiftieth year, often called the Year of Jubilee, the Lord delivered specific instructions for the people of Israel to follow, emphasizing its significance in their spiritual and communal life. First and foremost, He called upon them to set this year apart as Holy. It is essential to grasp that holiness is a divine attribute God instilled within us. Interestingly, the authority to declare the year holy belonged not solely to God but was entrusted to the people of Israel themselves. This empowerment highlights a profound truth: through Jesus Christ, God has granted each of us the same spiritual authority. In Matthew 12:33, Jesus teaches us that our words hold power, stating that “the tree is recognized by its fruit.” Hence, when a year is designated as holy, every moment within that year—each day, month, minute, second, and hour—takes on a sacred character, reflecting the potential for transformation within our declarations.

The second aspect of the Year of Jubilee is its essence as a year of release. This year symbolizes a profound restoration of freedom and grace across the land. Individuals who had fallen into slavery, either due to financial distress or other circumstances, were granted the opportunity to reclaim their liberty. Likewise, properties mortgaged or lost due to debts could be returned to their rightful owners, ensuring that families could regain their heritage. Furthermore, those who might have felt alienated or forced away from their communities for any reason were encouraged to return and seek reconciliation with their relatives.

In this context, we recognize that through Christ, we have received our own Jubilee—a time of spiritual freedom and restoration. Therefore, our divine responsibility is to extend that spirit of release and forgiveness to others. By forgiving those who have wronged us and fostering an attitude of grace, we honour the Jubilee we have received and promote healing within our communities. Let us embrace this opportunity to reflect the love and mercy of Christ in our lives, creating a ripple effect of compassion and understanding around us.

Prayer
Dear Heavenly Father, I humbly come before You with a heart full of gratitude for the incredible gift of Jubilee that I experience through the finished work of salvation that Jesus so selflessly purchased on the cross. This precious gift of grace frees me from the burden of sin and fills my life with hope and purpose. Please guide me in cherishing this profound blessing daily, nurturing it in my heart, and sharing its light with others. Help me to live in a way that reflects Your love and mercy, honouring the sacrifice that made my spiritual renewal possible. In Jesus’s name, Amen.
