Leviticus 23:39 NLT
“Remember that this seven-day festival to the Lord—the Festival of Shelters—begins on the fifteenth day of the appointed month, after you have harvested all the produce of the land. The first day and the eighth day of the festival will be days of complete rest.”
All the produce of the land
An adage states that a blacksmith does not continually strike a spot unless there is something to address. The repetition of the timeline for celebrating the Festival of Shelter implies that the Lord does not want the people of Israel to downplay its significance. Like the other six divinely established festivals, the Festival of Shelter points to the person of Christ. For seven days during this feast, the people of Israel lived outside in temporary structures, reminiscent of their time in the wilderness when the Lord was with them and protected them. Today, Jesus is with us. In Matthew 1:23, the scripture says He shall be called Emmanuel, which means “God is with us,” or more accurately, “God is dwelling among us.” If the voice of the Lord brings liberty, one can only imagine the wonders that occur in His presence.
Another insight focuses on the timing of the festival. The instruction states that it must occur after the people of Israel have harvested all the land’s produce. It is instructive to note that the Lord didn’t say after they had harvested all the produce of their efforts but of the land that flows with milk and honey. Situating the festival after the harvest is completed suggests that the Lord desires total commitment from them in worship. Friends, it is good to expend your effort on your endeavours, but as long as you reside in the land that the I AM WHO I AM offers you, the Lord will enable you to reap all the land’s harvest every season. After you have harvested, endeavour to worship God with undivided attention. He who makes the current harvest possible will facilitate the future harvest.
Prayer
Heavenly Father, please help me harvest all the land’s produce each season. I pray that no harvest will elude me, and after every harvest, please help me worship You with undivided attention. In Jesus’s name, I pray. Amen.
