Leviticus 23:37
(“These are the Lord’s appointed festivals. Celebrate them each year as official days for holy assembly by presenting special gifts to the Lord—burnt offerings, grain offerings, sacrifices, and liquid offerings—each on its proper day.”
The Lord’s appointed festival
How a message is conveyed often reveals whether the messenger merely transmits information or assumes ownership of the content. In today’s referenced scripture, we see a clear distinction: Moses did not present the message as his own but instead attributed it entirely to God. This is evident in his declaration of the festivals, which he called “the Lord’s appointed festivals.” Moses took great care to emphasize to the people of Israel and, by extension, their posterity that these festivals were not the result of human creativity or personal whim. Instead, they stemmed directly from divine instructions meticulously outlined by God Himself.
Moses provided yet another important example of this fidelity to divine guidance when he instructed the people on how to celebrate these festivals. He faithfully communicated the specific steps the Lord had laid out, ensuring that the celebrations aligned with divine intentions. He refrained from injecting his own opinions or ideologies into the practices; his focus was solely on adhering to God’s directives.
This raises a significant question for us today. Can you confidently assert that the practices and traditions in your life—spiritual or otherwise—are established on divine principles? Do they adhere to a divine template, or are they simply adaptations of what others do, influenced by societal trends or popular suggestions? Reflecting on this could provide deeper insight into the authenticity of our practices and beliefs.
