Leviticus 23:35 NLT
“On the first day of the festival, you must proclaim an official day for holy assembly when you do no ordinary work.”
God first
In the scripture referenced, the Lord’s guidance highlights the importance of placing Him at the forefront of all our activities. This priority is underscored by the necessity of holding the holy assembly on the very first day of the festival. Friends, let us wholeheartedly commit to honouring God during our celebrations and gatherings.
Moreover, the Lord made it explicit that the assembly must not be just any gathering; it must be a holy one. This directive reminds us that holiness should permeate our actions and interactions at all times, particularly in good times. It calls us to cultivate an atmosphere where sacredness is the norm and our focus is on divine communion.
Additionally, the Lord cautioned against engaging in ordinary work at the beginning of the festival. The rationale behind this instruction is clear: it is impossible to serve two masters faithfully at once. As Jesus articulated, a servant will inevitably love one and despise the other. Likewise, God desires us to relinquish any obligations or distractions that might hinder us from fully enjoying the richness of His presence.
Therefore, friends, when we come into God’s presence, we must be intentionally present. This means focusing our mind, body, soul, and spirit wholly on Him, leaving behind the distractions that may tug at our attention. Being fully present allows us to engage deeply in our relationship with God and to experience the joy and peace that comes from prioritizing Him above all else. Let this commitment to holiness and devotion always be the cornerstone of our celebrations.
Prayer
Heavenly Father, please help me always to revere You and never allow anything to occupy my heart or divert my attention from Your awesomeness. In Jesus’s name, I pray. Amen.
