Leviticus 23:6 NLT
“On the next day, the fifteenth day of the month, you must begin celebrating the Festival of Unleavened Bread. This festival to the Lord continues for seven days, and during that time, the bread you eat must be made without yeast.”
Festival of the Unleavened Bread
Everything that God commanded in the Old Testament serves as a foreshadowing of the ultimate reality, which is found in Jesus Christ. In the scriptures, the Lord specifically directed the people of Israel to observe the festival of unleavened bread, beginning on the fifteenth day of the first month. This time frame typically aligns with March and April in the Gregorian calendar.
One of the key instructions for this festival was that the bread consumed must be made without yeast. This directive carries significant meaning and imparts two crucial lessons. First, it’s worth noting that God did not mandate that the Israelites eat only unleavened bread for the entire festival; instead, He said whenever they eat during the festival, it must be the unleavened bread. This suggests that God is compassionate and desires a relationship with His people rather than simply enforcing strict rules for its sake.
The second lesson revolves around the profound symbolism intertwined with this practice. The unleavened bread represents communion or fellowship with Jesus Christ, embodying purity and holiness. Conversely, the leaven, which the Israelites were instructed to remove from their homes, signifies sin and evil. This act of purging leaven serves as a reminder of the importance of living a life free from sin.
Beloved friends, it is clear that God longs for you to foster a deep and meaningful fellowship with Jesus Christ. It is essential to cultivate this relationship so that it is untainted by sin or evil influences. Strive to embrace the fullness of this communion, allowing it to transform your life and draw you closer to God’s heart.
