Leviticus 23:4 NLT
“In addition to the Sabbath, these are the Lord’s appointed festivals, the official days for holy assembly that are to be celebrated at their proper times each year.”
Holy Assembly
Many people seem to have a belief rooted in the idea that heaven could be monotonous or dull, leading some to express a preference for hell. This perspective is often fueled by the notion that certain musicians or artists, deemed controversial or rebellious, are somehow destined for a place of eternal punishment. However, upon examining various passages in the Bible, it becomes clear that heaven is depicted as a vibrant, joyous place, in stark contrast to hell, which is portrayed as a realm filled with agony and despair, characterized by “gnashing of teeth.”
In the scripture referenced, God gave the people of Israel specific instructions concerning organizing and celebrating festivals, which were essential for fostering community and spiritual connection. If the kingdom of God were to be seen as lacklustre or uninspiring, one would expect that the divine instructions given to the Israelites would mirror this viewpoint. But the instruction suggests the opposite. Also, it is significant to note that God emphasized these festivals as recurring events rather than merely isolated celebrations, mandating that they be observed annually, year after year. This insistence on repetition indicates that the Lord desires to see His people in a joyous mood.
Moreover, while these gatherings are celebratory festivals, the call to holiness remains paramount. God explicitly reminded the Israelites that each festival represents a “holy assembly.” This emphasis on sanctity conveys that, despite the joyous nature of these events, participants must conduct themselves with respect and dignity. No one should, under the guise of celebration, engage in any behaviour that would undermine the honour of their fellow attendees or detract from the holiness of the occasion. Similarly, whenever you and I come together with fellow believers in y(our) churches or ministries, let us strive to maintain an environment of holiness and respect so that y(our) assembly is recognized as a sacred gathering reflective of the divine intent behind such celebrations.
Prayer
Heavenly Father, please help me maintain my character and integrity so that I may contribute positively to our holy assembly. I seek Your strength to ensure that my actions and words uplift our gathering rather than lead it astray. May I always embody the values of love, respect, and unity, keeping our community a sacred space for all. In Jesus’s name, I pray. Amen.
