Leviticus 22:33 NLT
“It was I who rescued you from the land of Egypt, that I might be your God. I am the Lord.”
Unless the Lord builds…
It is a common perspective among people to believe that their actions, efforts, and decisions directly lead to the outcomes they experience in life. This mindset is especially prevalent among many Christians, who may attribute their victories and personal progress solely to their spiritual gymnastics. However, it is essential to recognize a vital truth: unless the Lord wills an outcome, nothing can make it happen. In Psalm 127, the scripture says unless the Lord watches over a city, the vigilance of the watchmen will yield no meaningful results. In other words, our attempts to manipulate a favourable outcome tend to lead to frustration and disappointment.
When the Lord declared in the above scripture that He was the one who brought the people of Israel out of Egypt, it was not just a boastful statement or a mere historical reminder. Instead, it was a profound reminder of His grace and unmerited favour at work within their lives. Also, God emphasized that the purpose of this deliverance was not simply for the people to make sacrifices to appease Him. Instead, His intention was for Him to be their God in a profoundly personal way. He sought to establish a relationship where He would be their source of strength, support, and guidance.
In the same light, God’s decision to save you is an act of grace. It signifies His commitment to doing for you what you cannot accomplish on your own. Therefore, it is crucial to refrain from trying to earn or access His grace through your performance, as these efforts will always fall short of His standards. Instead, find peace and assurance in resting upon His grace. As stated in the book of James, chapter 4, verse 6, “grace is greater.” This reminder encourages us to trust in the sufficiency of God’s grace, which surpasses our shortcomings and provides us with everything we need to thrive in our relationship with Him.
Prayer
Heavenly Father, I come to You with a heart full of gratitude for the incredible gift of salvation that Jesus secured for us through His sacrificial death on the cross at Calvary. I pray that I will always hold this gift in the highest regard and not allow it to be overshadowed or diminished by my own efforts or distractions. Please guide me, Lord, to genuinely embrace and appreciate this salvation, rather than treat it lightly or engage in spiritual practices that could undermine its significance. Strengthen me in my commitment to living a life that reflects this truth. Amen.
