Leviticus: 22:26-27 NLT
“And the Lord said to Moses, “When a calf or lamb or goat is born, it must be left with its mother for seven days. From the eighth day on, it will be acceptable as a special gift to the Lord.”
What makes a gift special to the Lord?
Whenever I have the chance to visit restaurants, I am always fascinated by how chefs work to please their patrons. They pay close attention to the details of what their customers have ordered. This reminds me of what Rebecca said to her son, Jacob, in Genesis 27:9, where she asserted that she would prepare the food just as Isaac liked it.
In the above scripture, the Lord informed Moses that He has specific preferences for an offering. The Lord stated that the animal “must be left with its mother for seven days.” Anything from eight days, such an offering will be acceptable as a special gift to the Lord. Friends, God desires to accept your offering, but that acceptance relies on your willingness to present it in accordance with His desires. In Matthew 5:23, our Lord and Savior indicated that the approval of one’s offering is contingent upon one’s state of mind. Therefore, let us strive to have pure hearts and be cleansed so that our gifts can be accepted and, in turn, we can receive blessings from the Lord our God.
Prayer
Heavenly Father, I pray that I will not act according to my desires when offering gifts to You but instead follow Your guidance as demonstrated through Jesus’s death, resurrection, and ascension. Amen.
