Leviticus: 22:23 NLT
“If a bull or lamb has a leg that is too long or too short, it may be offered as a voluntary offering, but it may not be offered to fulfill a vow.”
Acceptable offer II
In this verse, God continues to build a relationship with the Israelites. He had to teach them because they did not truly know Him. They only recognized Him as the God who saved them from the Egyptians and perhaps as a deity they learned about through stories passed down from previous generations. This learning process sets the right tone for what Christians today must understand. We are part of a blessed generation because we are no longer solely dependent on knowing God from a distance or through a high priest; we can now approach the throne of grace with boldness.
So, what can we consider a defective offering in our time? What is expected of us as Christians when we offer to God? Romans 12:1 encourages us that one acceptable offering is our bodies, describing this as a reasonable service. Another essential term used is “holy.” This means that when we offer God what He finds pleasing—our resources and time—we need to do so in a way that honours Him.
It’s crucial to understand that offering something and having that offering be acceptable are different matters. For instance, if we offer our bodies, we must ensure they are holy, along with our thoughts and overall being. We should aim to offer from a place of sincerity and understanding, especially in union with the Spirit of Truth. Natural persons cannot offer anything acceptable to God because they may lean toward what pleases people regarding physical appearances. However, the Spirit of Truth searches the intents and purposes of God and guides us in the right direction.
