Leviticus: 22:22 NLT
“You must not offer an animal that is blind, crippled, or injured, or that has a wart, a skin sore, or scabs. Such animals must never be offered on the altar as special gifts to the Lord.”
Acceptable offer
The Lord required the Israelites to honour Him through their offerings. He understood humanity and recognized that people have an opportunistic nature. When it comes to giving, individuals often have a selfish inclination to keep the best for themselves and offer only the least desirable to an “unseen” God. Additionally, He knew that the Israelites didn’t fully understand Him or have reverence for what should be offered at the altar.
God was aware of their tendencies because they were the same people who, during Moses’s brief absence when he went up the mountain, sought a tangible god, created one, and worshipped it. God emphasized the importance of honour by clearly stating what would be an acceptable offering.
Consider this: if a person receives a visitor or special guest in their home, they would not offer a half-full bottle of soda, as that would be disrespectful. How much greater is the dishonour in offering a defective gift to God, the most important guest one could ever have? Honouring God involves more than just our spoken words in public; it also encompasses our actions in private.
Prayer
Heavenly Father, please grant me the wisdom and clarity to recognize all aspects of my life where I may be presenting imperfect or flawed offerings to You. Help me understand where my intentions, actions, or commitments may not fully align with Your will. I seek Your guidance to identify any shortcomings or distractions that keep me from serving You wholeheartedly. In the name of Jesus, I pray for Your divine assistance to purify these offerings and draw me closer to You. Amen.
