Leviticus: 22:15-16 NLT
“The priests must not let the Israelites defile the sacred offerings brought to the Lord by allowing unauthorized people to eat them. This would bring guilt upon them and require them to pay compensation. I am the Lord who makes them holy.”
A weighty responsibility
In the scripture cited above, the Lord instructed Moses to inform Aaron and his sons about the Israelites’ future behaviour regarding the priests’ sacred meals. He pointed out that many among them, if not all, would show a lack of reverence for His instructions regarding the sacred meal that He had ordained. They would likely regard the priest’s sacred allotment with indifference, believing nothing was particularly special or significant about it.
Yet, the Lord made it clear that responsibility rests ultimately with the priests—the spiritual leaders entrusted with safeguarding the sanctity of the sacred meals. They are tasked with taking every necessary measure to ensure that the Israelites—regardless of age, gender, or social status—are not allowed to violate the instruction. This duty requires vigilance, discernment, and a commitment to upholding the holiness of God’s commandments.
As believers, we are called a royal priesthood in the order of Christ Jesus. This identity carries with it a weighty responsibility. We must stand firm in our convictions and not succumb to societal pressures or temptations that seek to dilute or compromise the purity of the gospel of Christ. Our mission is to preserve the truth and keep the sacredness of our faith intact, guiding others in a way that honours the Lord and His divine instructions. We must approach our calling with intention and seriousness, recognizing the high stakes in maintaining our heritage in Christ Jesus.
Prayer
Heavenly Father, please grant me the wisdom and strength to carry out my responsibilities diligently and carefully, ensuring no complacency in my duties. Help me maintain a clear focus on my commitments, approaching each task with sincerity, dedication, and a spirit of service. In Jesus’s name, I pray. Amen.
