Leviticus: 22:14 NLT
“Any such person who eats the sacred offerings without realizing it must pay the priest for the amount eaten, plus an additional 20 percent.”
The need for divine wisdom
God consistently means what He communicates and communicates what He truly means. Thus, when He instructed that no unauthorized person was allowed to eat sacred meals, He left no room for exceptions. This directive stands firm regardless of who might infringe upon it—even if it were Moses, the very conduit through which the message was conveyed. Friends, the Lord’s instruction is for all to follow.
In a more practical scenario, if a priest chooses not to invite a guest or friend for a meal, this decision should be considered entirely justifiable. The guest or friend should not feel slighted or offended by their omission from the gathering. Instead, they ought to feel a sense of gratitude towards the priest for safeguarding the sanctity of the meal and steering them away from a potentially awkward or inappropriate situation.
The lesson to be gleaned from the scripture referenced today highlights the serious implications of a lack of self-control. As devoted followers of Christ, we are called to exercise self-control in all aspects of our lives, whether concerning food, emotions, or other issues. We must ensure that our feelings do not dictate our actions. Instead, we must maintain a disciplined approach in every situation through the leading of the Holy Spirit.
Prayer
Heavenly Father, please help me so that I will exercise self-control in all aspects of my life. Please grant me the wisdom to recognize temptations and the courage to resist situations that could lead me into trouble. In Jesus’s name, I pray. Amen.
