Leviticus: 22:10 NLT
“No one outside a priest’s family may eat the sacred offerings. Even guests and hired workers in a priest’s home are not allowed to eat them..”
Godliness with contentment
In the referenced scripture, the Lord explicitly states that no one outside a priest’s family can partake of the sacred meal. This phrase, “no one,” is significant and underscores the absolute nature of the Lord’s command—regardless of the person’s social status, background, or any other distinguishing factors, the prohibition stands firm. Importantly, it is noteworthy that the Lord mentions explicitly a “priest family” rather than the term “priesthood.” This distinction emphasizes that the intention was for each priest to find fulfillment and be satisfied with the portion allocated to them, reinforcing the idea of contentment within their divine calling.
Moreover, the scripture offers insights into the relationships between priests, their guests, and their hired workers. It warns against allowing familiarity to breed contempt, suggesting that those in proximity to priests ought not to envy or covet their possessions. We are reminded that contentment with what God has given us is of the utmost importance because an attitude of godliness, accompanied by contentment, is often a precursor to true gain and satisfaction. Additionally, we learn about the practical aspects of a priest’s life, including their engagement with hired workers. This scripture clarifies that priests were not permitted to engage in any other profession but were allowed to employ others to work on their farms.
Having hired workers does not signify a lack of faith in God’s provision. On the contrary, it showcases that even those in spiritual leadership are called to be diligent and industrious. Friends, are you genuinely content with what God has provided for you? In our pursuit of spiritual fulfillment and blessings, we should not fall into the trap of dissatisfaction.
Prayer
Heavenly Father, thank You for Your provisions. I pray I will be contented and not covet another person’s provision. In Jesus’s name, Amen.
