Leviticus 21:9 NLT
“If a priest’s daughter defiles herself by becoming a prostitute, she also defiles her father’s holiness, and she must be burned to death.”
We are connected
The referenced scripture begins with the conditional word “if,” suggesting that the behaviour described is not the norm but could occur. For it to happen, a person must activate it. In other words, it requires an effort. This raises the question: on what endeavours do you focus your efforts?
The statement that follows discusses the consequences if a priest’s daughter defiles herself by becoming a prostitute. The Lord says the action will defile her father’s holiness and result in a capital punishment for her. So, what might drive a priest’s daughter to engage in such behaviour? One possibility is that she might feel that since she plays no part in the daily activities of the Tabernacle, she’s free to do anything, or it could be a rebellious attitude to object to a lack of involvement in the daily activities of the Tabernacle.
However, it’s important to remember that we are not free to do anything with our bodies. As Christians, we are part of the body of Christ and, therefore, cannot simply claim, “It’s my life; I am free to do whatever I like.” Engaging in whatever we desire, particularly questionable activities, not only affects us but also brings shame to the name of our heavenly Father.

Heavenly Father, please help me be conscious of my actions and how they could impact other people’s lives. I pray that I will not disgrace God’s name through any of my endeavours, in Jesus’s name.
