Leviticus 21:8 NLT
“You must treat them as holy because they offer up food to your God. You must consider them holy because I, the Lord, am holy, and I make you holy.”
God qualifies the called
The starting word in the above scripture passage emphasizes the inclusive nature of the divine directives, making it clear that everyone in Israel is expected to comply with the instructions. Using the word “you” signifies that no one is exempt from the obligation, even Moses. Additionally, the passage stresses the importance of treating all priests with reverence and holiness, as they are instrumental in presenting the sacrifices to God. Furthermore, the declaration that the priests have been made holy by the Lord underscores the significance of this status, as it cannot be attributed to any of their actions or accomplishments. This is a profound reminder of the divine nature of their calling. God qualifies the called.
In relating this to Rev 1:6, the passage encourages believers to recognize themselves as part of a kingdom of priests, having been given this status through the work of salvation that Jesus finished on the cross at Calvary. This perspective calls for a lifestyle that reflects this holy calling, urging you and me to uphold the dignity and sanctity of one another as members of this priestly kingdom. Since God made it a no-no for outsiders to undermine or ridicule the priest under the law but to see them as holy because He made them holy, let us not ridicule one another under any guise because our holiness is through Jesus Christ.
Prayer
Heavenly Father, I ask that You continue to make me holy according to Your standards and never allow me to rubbish the finished work of salvation purchased with the blood of the Only Begotten Son. In Jesus’s name, amen.
