Leviticus 21:18-20 NLT
“No one who has a defect qualifies, whether he is blind, lame, disfigured, deformed, or has a broken foot or arm, or is hunchbacked or dwarfed, or has a defective eye, or skin sores or scabs, or damaged testicles.”
No deformity of any sort
In today’s society, it’s unfortunately common for individuals to use their own personal standards to evaluate who is truly serving the Lord or aligning with His will. It’s concerning that these standards often center around material possessions and worldly accomplishments. Regrettably, those who do not meet these criteria are often unfairly judged as being in sin or as lacking a close relationship with the Lord.
It’s crucial to take a moment to contemplate the significance of the scripture that discusses the high priest’s family and the deformities associated with it. We should delve into why these deformities are specifically linked to the high priest’s family. It’s essential to bear in mind that when individuals encounter challenges, it’s not our place to automatically attribute their difficulties to sin. In John 9, Jesus made it clear to His disciples that the man who was born blind did not sin, nor did his parents. His condition existed so that God’s glory could be revealed.
This serves as a poignant reminder for us to approach others with empathy and understanding, rather than swiftly jumping to judgment.
