Leviticus 21:16-17 NLT
“Then the Lord said to Moses, “Give the following instructions to Aaron: In all future generations, none of your descendants who has any defect will qualify to offer food to his God
Remain unblemished before God
As Christians, it is of utmost importance to adhere to the instructions given by God. This not only contributes to our spiritual growth but also attracts God’s blessings into our lives. The passage above emphasizes the significance of following God’s commands regarding the specific regulations set for the priesthood service. According to the scripture, God instructed Moses to relay the criteria for anyone in his lineage with physical defects to his brother, Aaron. This was essential to ensure that only those deemed fit and qualified could participate in religious services. The priests, serving as intermediaries between God and the people, also represent the divine order. Therefore, maintaining physical perfection was crucial to upholding the sanctity of the sacrificial rites and the sacred space.
It’s important to note that the Jewish priests symbolized Christ, being holy, blameless, and without blemish, just as Christ’s blood signifies purity and atonement. As believers, we are also called to be representatives of God, and as such, we are expected to lead morally upright and pure lives. We should strive to distance ourselves from ungodly actions and behaviours that could tarnish the name of Christ or hinder others from coming to know God. We must recognize that, as believers, we are constantly under observation, and people have specific expectations of our conduct. Therefore, if there are any imperfections or blemishes within us, we should seek the help of the Holy Spirit to purify and cleanse us.
