Leviticus 21:1 NLT
“The Lord said to Moses, “Give the following instructions to the priests, the descendants of Aaron. “A priest must not make himself ceremonially unclean by touching the dead body of a relative.”
‭‭
Don’t defile yourself
Moses’s life was forever changed when he answered God’s call. According to the scriptures, God communicated with Moses regularly, and one such encounter is mentioned in today’s passage. It’s important to note that these encounters wouldn’t have happened if Moses hadn’t remained dedicated to God. God desires a personal relationship with us, but we must prepare ourselves by living a holy life.

Although Aaron and his sons were anointed as priests and could hear directly from God, the Lord communicated instructions through Moses. This demonstrates that God doesn’t use people and then discard them. As long as the communication link remains unbroken, God will continue interacting with that person. That the Lord didn’t provide instructions directly to those involved doesn’t mean He didn’t trust them; it shows that God understands the potential for conflicts of interest.

In today’s referenced scripture, the Lord warned the priests about a potential source of uncleanliness. The Lord clarified that if it were to happen, it would be because they allowed it. Friends, God has set us apart, so we shouldn’t make ourselves unworthy of His presence by indulging in the works of the flesh. Since the Spirit gives life, giving in to the desires of the flesh leads to spiritual death (John 6:63). Therefore, we must live a holy life always.

Living a holy life is one of the most crucial ways to please God, as our God is holy. Holiness isn’t just about what we eat or how we dress, as Jesus taught that we are not defiled by what we consume but by what comes out of our mouths (Matthew 15:11-20). We should be careful not to make ourselves spiritually unclean by using our mouths to curse and praise God simultaneously (James 3:10-13) or by allowing our minds to become breeding grounds for the devil’s ideas and schemes (Proverbs 4:23).

Prayer
Heavenly Father, I don’t want to be reckless with my life. You have set me apart, and I want to remain so. Please help me never to dabble into any endeavour that will make me unworthy of Your presence. In Jesus’s name, Amen.
