Leviticus 20:7 NLT
“So set yourselves apart to be holy, for I am the Lord your God.”
The ball is in your court
The origin of the phrase “the ball is in your court” is not definitively known, but it is universally recognized as a symbol of personal responsibility. This notion of individual responsibility is also reflected in the referenced scripture, where Israelites were called to take ownership of their actions and decisions as children of God.
In the referenced scripture, the Lord instructed the people of Israel to set themselves apart to be holy. This directive emphasized the importance of personal choice and the responsibility to align oneself with God’s teachings. It highlighted that individuals can make decisions that impact their lives and their relationship with the Lord.
The importance of intentional decision-making in maintaining a close relationship with God was emphasized. There is no dilly-dallying that individuals have the agency to choose their path and the responsibility to avoid actions or behaviours contrary to the teachings of the Lord. Friends, God knows we can set ourselves apart to be holy through the help of the Holy Spirit; let us do it to the glory and honour of His name.
