Leviticus 20:6 NLT
“I will also turn against those who commit spiritual prostitution by putting their trust in mediums or in those who consult the spirits of the dead. I will cut them off from the community.”
Don’t deactivate the default setting
Today’s referenced scripture highlights the special relationship between God and humanity. It emphasizes that by default, God and humans have a close bond. This bond is so strong that God is always focused on us, continually looking in our direction. However, there is a condition to this perpetual connection. This close bond might be disrupted if individuals engage in activities that dishonour God. God informed Moses that He would turn away from those who turn away from Him. However, the consequence is not all-encompassing; it applies only to those who engage in spiritual prostitution.
This behaviour stemmed from their time in Egypt, where they drifted away from the God of Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob and started to adopt the customs of the Egyptians. Consequently, what was once considered abnormal became normalized, and seeking guidance from mediums and communicating with spirits became an accepted practice.
Even after being rescued from slavery by the Lord, the Israelites continued these practices, believing that mediums and spirits played a role in their deliverance. This is a powerful reminder to reflect on our lives and identify practices or habits that do not contribute to our spiritual well-being. It’s essential to eliminate anything that leads to spiritual unfaithfulness and instead hold firmly to Christ Jesus.
