Leviticus 20:23 NLT
Do not live according to the customs of the people I am driving out before you. It is because they do these shameful things that I detest them.
Do not conform with the world
The land God promised to the Israelites was not simply an empty territory awaiting their arrival; it was a land God intended to clear of its previous inhabitants so that the Israelites could take possession of it. This land had been corrupted by various forms of sin and iniquity, contrary to God’s desires. Practices such as idolatry, sexual immorality, and even human sacrifice had tainted the land, all of which stemmed from the influence of the devil. God’s plan for the Israelites was for them to live by His pure laws and principles, free from the contamination of these sinful practices. The Lord understood that the devil would attempt to entice the Israelites and lead them astray, just as he had done with the previous inhabitants.
It’s important for us as Christians to recognize that whenever we enter a new territory, whether it’s a physical space like a new home, workplace or office space, we are not the first to inhabit that space. Others may have left their mark, and their beliefs and rituals could have influenced the environment. Therefore, we must hold firmly to our faith, as stated in 2 Corinthians 1:21. These belief systems can subtly infiltrate our minds and alter our thought patterns if we are not vigilant. As Christians, we are called to be in the world but not of it, and thus, we must continually renew our minds through prayer and immersion in the word of God.
Prayer
Heavenly Father, please grant me the strength to remain steadfast in Your ways and to renew my mind in alignment with Your will consistently. In Jesus’s name, amen.
